Our residents perform comprehensive dental care in a new state of the art facility as part of the University of Vermont Medical Center, a teaching hospital affiliated with the UVM Larner College of Medicine. Dental residents complete two three-month rotations at The UVM Dental and Oral Health office utilizing a full staff similar to the private practice model. Our teaching faculty represents all specialties and general dentistry to work with residents in the teaching operatory. Implants are restored under the guidance of a prosthodontist. Residents will also complete a hospital rotation at UVM Medical Center providing care for medically compromised patients and assisting our Oral Surgery faculty in the operating room for three months. While on the hospital rotation, the residents provide dental coverage for the Emergency Department and consult service within the hospital. Also during the hospital rotation, residents will participate in a two-week rotation with the Anesthesia department, a one-week rotation with the Emergency Department, and a one-week rotation with Internal Medicine. Residents also complete a three-month rural rotation at The Health Center, an FQHC located in Plainfield, Vermont. We offer a strong didactic program with lectures and hands-on opportunities from a number of general dentists and specialists from our community. The training that dental residents receive from the University of Vermont Medical Center GPR Program provides education and experience to treat dental patients in private practice or to excel in a specialty training program.
