      Program Description ↑

The Department of Dentistry/OMFS of Jacobi Medical Center offers a one or two-year general practice residency. It includes outpatient and inpatient care. There are eleven(11) first-year positions and one chief resident position. The facilities at both practices (Jacobi and NCB) afford an excellent opportunity to learn and practice all phases of dentistry under the direction of highly accomplished practitioners.

Jacobi Medical Center Campus is comprised of Jacobi Medical Center and the Rose F. Kennedy Center. Jacobi Hospital (Bldg #1) is the primary site utilized for emergency care, oral surgery training, and operating room experience. JMC and NCB are the major sites of comprehensive ambulatory dental care for adults and children. The Rose F. Kennedy Center (Bldg #3) delivers dental care to patients with developmental disabilities. North Central Bronx (NCB) Hospital is several minutes away and accessible by hospital shuttle.

Jacobi Medical Center is designated as a Level 1 trauma center. This means that the residents have unique opportunities to work with emergency room personnel and dental residents treating patients who have sustained maxillo-facial trauma including dentoalveolar fractures, lacerations etc. Located on Pelham Parkway, across the street from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the Jacobi Medical Center serves the community residents in this urban landscaped area of the Bronx. The population is mixed lower and middle class with a variety of dental insurance plans. General practice residents will gain broad experience in a variety of specialties including endodontics(rotary, vertical obturation), periodontics (including surgery), laser dentistry, extensive oral surgery and implant prosthodontics including placement and restoration of single-unit implants. Additionally, residents will provide multiple units and full arch hybrid implant restorations.  The program is designed to provide the resident a challenging and diverse clinical experience and grow in confidence while under the guidance of experienced practitioners. There is a comprehensive didactic program covering all specialty topics in addition to case presentations, journal clubs, ethical issues, practice management and presentations from vendors in the dental field.

Residents provide treatment working with dental assistants to provide four-handed dentistry. The clinics utilize an electronic dental record, digital radiographs including pan/ceph, lasers, cone beam technology, microscope for endodontics and digital scanning.
