The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Medstar Washington Hospital Center has provided inpatient and outpatient services to the metropolitan Washington, DC, community since 1936. The oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program is a four-year program with three available positions each year. The program offers an interdisciplinary look at oral and maxillofacial surgery, featuring a high volume of patients with a wide range of conditions. Residents learn the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery, from elective procedures to trauma interventions, gradually assuming full responsibility for patient care. Residents work in a variety of settings, providing services in the ambulatory care center, emergency department, MedSTAR shock/trauma unit and in the operating room, under the close supervision of more than 30 attending oral & maxillofacial surgeons.
