Our General Practice Residency progam is hospital based at the University of Utah Hospital and is an opportunity for ten dental graduates to experience a year of advanced clinical dental education with practice opportunities in a large modern hospital. The program draws on all resources of the hospital, and the residents receive training in anesthesiology, general medicine, geriatrics, plastic surgery, and the dental disciplines of oral surgery, implants, periodontology, endodontics, pedodontics, fixed and removable prosthetics, restorative dentistry, oral diagnosis and general dentistry including working with auxiliaries. All instruction is supervised by dental faculty from the School of Dentistry and medical staff members from the School of Medicine and the University Hospital. An opportunity exists for the residents to have further experiences in various hospital and community clinics, dental research, or clinical dentistry. Seminar participation, and formal case reports are required of all residents. Each resident is required to take primary and secondary on-call assignments, and must remain in contact with the hospital. Rotations at the Operating Room and Greenwood Dental Clinic are part of the residency year as well as a one month rotation at the Montezuma Creek Dental Clinic in Southeastern Utah. Hospital rotations include a two week rotation in Anesthesia and as well as two weeks in ENT/Oncology. Residents have opportunities to place and restore implants and use rotary instruments for endodontics.
