      Program Description ↑

This program is designed to develop skilled clinicians in endodontics who are well-prepared to complete the certification process of the American Board of Endodontics. The program is a 24-month program involving both a didactic and a clinical program. The didactic portion of the curriculum explores the biomedical sciences upon which modern clinical endodontics is based. These include anatomy, immunology, microbiology, neurophysiology, and statistics among other subjects and a comprehensive review of the endodontic literature. Additionally, an attempt is made to review approximately three textbooks related to endodontics during each year of the program. The clinical portion of the program is extensive with past residents completing an ample number of cases. Case review is conducted weekly with residents presenting all their cases to attending faculty and fellow residents. Each resident is involved in clinical teaching in the pre-doctoral clinic for 1/2 day each week. Additionally, they are asked to present lectures and lead seminars for other residents. A significant research project is required and oral and written examinations are given twice yearly.

Those applying for the Graduate Endodontic Program are encouraged to have at least one year of experience in general dentistry, i.e, private practice, member of the Armed Forces, Public Health Service or an AEGD/GPR experience. However, previous experience is not absolutely required. The program does not require a GRE exam score for admission.
